Fourth of July!

We had a 4th of July celebration at my mother's house, so I decided what more creative and tasty way to be patriotic than red, white & blue cupcakes!

The cupcakes are rich chocolate cake with vanilla icing.  I dyed one batch of icing red, and dyed another batch blue.  I also reserved some plain white vanilla icing.

I piped the red and blue icing on the cupcakes and then used a star tip to pipe white stars onto each cupcake.

To finish them off, I sprinkled red, white & blue sugar sprinkles on them...Viola!

Red Velvet!

My favorite cake in the world, is red velvet cake with cream cheese icing!  It should be no surprise then, that the first cupcakes I made once I decided to attempt to make baking my career, were beautiful red velvets!

I made moist red velvet cupcakes filled with a creamy cream cheese filling.  I then piped delicious cream cheese icing on to each cupcakes, and topped with red velvet cake crumbs!

I didn't make these cupcakes for any particular reason or event, but my family was more than happy to make sure they did not go to waste!
